Description:
Alternating One Arm Ring Pushups are gymnastics-based upper body exercises that focus on building iso-lateral strength by activating one side of the body at a time. Because of the instability of the rings it is important to focus on activating the core – this should help with maintaining proper balance. Perform this exercise on a set of low rings or use a block underneath your feet to ensure that the height of feet and hands are roughly at the same level when in the initial pushup position.
Process:
- begin in a pushup position on low rings
- shoulders should be stacked over elbows and hands
- engage core and focus on maintaining this position throughout the exercise
- bend one elbow to lower, and simultaneously extend the other arm out to the side
- when lowering, lean body slightly towards the bent arm to maintain balance
- extend the bent arm, and simultaneously pull the outstretched arm back underneath you to return to the starting position
- alternate arm each time
