Arch Hold

Description:

The Arch Hold is an important core strengthening exercise used by gymnasts of all ages.  Performing this exercise will help activate the core, glutes, and hamstrings.  Although at first glance it may look like a simple position, arch holds can provide a challenge when performed with proper technique.  For best results, keep legs together and refrain from bending knees when lifting legs off the ground.

 

Process:

  • begin in a prone position with arms overhead
  • without bending or splitting legs, arch back to lift legs, chest, and arms off the ground
  • keep head in line with your arms and hold
