Description:
Handstand Pirouette is a gymnastics skill that requires balance and ability to maintain postural control. For best result, keep head in line with the arms. Throwing the head out will naturally cause the body to arch, an action that can throw off the balance point when performing this skill. Scale by performing freestanding handstands.
Process:
- kick up to handstand
- tighten core and ensure head is in line with arms and body forms a perfectly straight line from toes all the way to hands
- if your dominant arm is your right arm, maintain pressure with the right and allow your left hand to rise off the floor and pivot 90 degrees clockwise around your right arm (opposite direction if you are left hand dominant)
- once your left hand touches the floor, maintain the turning momentum by pressing down on the floor with the left to allow your right arm to lift off the ground and pivot 90 degrees clockwise around the right arm
- finish in a tight handstand position
