Jumping Pushups

Description:

Jumping Pushup is a variation of the standard pushup.  This version helps build explosive strength as well as endurance in the upper body.  In order to perform this exercise efficiently, ensure that the core remains tight throughout the entire movement.  To give yourself a bigger challenge, increase the distance between your hands and floor after pushing off the ground – however make sure to land back softly to avoid injury.  Scale by performing standard pushups.

 

Process:

  • begin in a standard pushup position
  • ensure that shoulders are stacked over the elbows and hands
  • engage core and bend elbows to lower body as you would for a standard pushup
  • extend the arms (push through the fingertips) in an explosive fashion so that distance is created between your hands and the floor
  • immediately bend arm to retreat back to the bottom phase of the pushup position and repeat
  • a tight body position should be maintained at all times
