Lumbar Cross Over Stretch

Description:

The Lumbar Cross Over Stretch is a stretch that develops flexibility in the lumbar region of the spine/back.  The muscles in the lower back can often become overactive and tight from continued sitting – particularly in a work environment.  It is important to properly warm up and stretch this region before any form of activity that involves lateral flexion or rotation of the torso.  Use the cross over stretch to maintain a strong and healthy lower back.

 

Process:

  • lay on back (supine position) with both arms stretched out towards the side
  • bend one knee and drive to chest and twist torso to drive the same knee across the body
  • grab the knee that is crossed over with hand that is on the same side and pull closer to the floor if necessary
  • switch sides
