Side Lunge Stretch

Description:

A Side Lunge is a common stretch that is used to warm up the inner thighs, hips, and adductors.  Maintaining proper mobility in this region is especially important before starting any dynamic workout that requires the use of the lower extremity.  Assuming there is no prior lower extremity injury, feel free to add a little bit of pressure on top of the knee to get a light stretch in the back of the knee.

 

Process:

  • begin in a stand with legs slightly split apart
  • step with one foot laterally and bend the leading foot to slowly lower the body down
  • avoid letting the bent knee from overly jutting out over the toes as this may place unwanted stress on the knee
  • switch sides
