Side Plank Hold

Description:

A Side Plank is a variation of a standard plank hold.  This is a very commonly used exercise in Yoga workouts, as well as in hand balancing regimens.  Similar to the standard plank, this exercise can be performed on the hands or elbows.  This is an effective core exercise that develops strength in the obliques.

 

Process:

  • begin in a sideways seal position
  • legs should be tight with one leg stacked on top of the other
  • keep core engaged and lift hips off the ground
  • ensure that body forms a straight line and hips do not sag
  • hold for time
  • switch sides
