Side Rocks

Description:

Side rocks are core exercises that target the external obliques.  In order to maximize the effectiveness of this exercise, ensure that the a solid side arc is created at the midsection.  Feel free to cross the top arm around your torso and plant the hand to support the ground so that good rhythm is maintained throughout the rocking phase.  For best results, avoid letting the feet hit the floor between each rock.

Process:

  • begin on your side with arm closest to the floor overhead and other arm crossed over your body
  • the hand of arm crossed over the body should be planted firmly on the ground
  • engage core and create an arc with the hips to lift legs and upper torso off the ground
  • rock back and forth without arching or overly hollowing
  • switch sides
