Single Arm Handstand Hold Against the Wall

Description:

Single Arm Handstand Hold Against the Wall is an iso-lateral static hold exercise.  For best results, shift the body over until the center of mass is directly over the supporting arm.  If necessary, this skill can be made easier by straddling the legs and by also adding a bit of side flexion – two main techniques used to assist with counterbalancing.  While it is recommended that regular handstand against the wall be performed with stomach facing the wall, the single arm handstand should be performed with the back against the wall to eliminate the risk of tipping over.

Process:

  • find a wall and ensure that ample space is available
  • kick up to handstand with back against the wall
  • slowly move hands as close to the wall as possible and allow entire back to rest against the wall
  • engage core and straddle legs as wide as possible
  • slowly begin leaning and adding a side flexion toward the direction of the support arm until you feel your weight centered over the arm
