Standard Pushups

Description:

Standard Pushups are often regarded as one of the most fundamental bodyweight exercises.  They remain as one of the most utilized exercises by athletes of various disciplines to help develop basic upper body strength.  Developing a strong plank position as well as good wrist mobility are musts before beginning this exercise.  For best results, keep core engaged and tight during the entire movement.

 

Process:

  • begin a plank position
  • engage core and ensure that small of your back is in line with the rest of your body
  • bend elbows to lower the body, paying particular focus to keep head in line with the rest of the body
  • descend until chest hits the ground or is a few inches above it
  • extend elbows to return to starting position
  • a tight body position should be maintained at all times
