Straight-Straight

Description:

A Straight-Straight is an advanced upper body exercise that is used to transition from a support position to a handstand.  The core must be engaged throughout the entire movement to ensure that a straight body position is maintained.  For best results, solidify the planche position before performing this exercise.  In order to facilitate the upward motion, shoulders must lean forward before beginning the press action.

 

Process:

  • begin in an L-position or support position on the parallel bars
  • engage core and lean shoulders forward while maintaining a straight body position
  • as legs begin to lift, keep the head in a neutral position and avoid overarching
  • begin opening up the shoulder angle and push the armpit backwards to straighten the body to finish in a handstand
