Upper Arm Hold on Parallel Bars

Description:

Upper Arm Hold on the parallel bars is an exercise that builds strength in the lats, chest, and shoulders.  Developing the fundamentals in this position will help when attempting more advanced exercises that require solid upper arm strength – exercises include super dips and front uprises.  For best results, do not let the chest hollow or arch, instead maintain an upright position with the upper body.

Process:

  • begin in an upper arm position on the parallel bars by bending the elbows and resting the meaty section of the bicep muscle on the bars while also grabbing onto the bar with your hands
  • maintain an upright position and engage the lats to avoid sagging
