Description:
Right Leg Split is a stretch position that develops flexibility in the legs, particularly the hamstrings, hips, and adductors. Work on both, right and left leg splits, to develop even flexibility on both sides. A solid range of motion in this region will help when performing various exercises that require you to step forward such as the lunge, or gymnastics-specific skills such as the flairs. Take caution when performing this stretch as overexertion may cause strain.
Process:
- begin in a single leg kneeling position with right leg straight and in front (or begin in a seated pancake position)
- support your body with both arms
- ensure that hips are facing forward and that both legs are not internally or externally rotated
- slowly lower body until you feel a stretch
