Left Leg Split

Description:

Left Leg Split is a stretch position that develops flexibility in the legs, particularly the hamstrings, hips, and adductors.  Work on both, left and right leg splits, to develop even flexibility on both sides.  A solid range of motion in this region will help when performing various exercises that require you to step forward such as the lunge, or gymnastics-specific skills such as the flairs.  Take caution when performing this stretch as overexertion may cause strain.

Process:

  • begin in a single leg kneeling position with left leg straight and in front (or begin in a seated pancake position)
  • support your body with both arms
  • ensure that hips are facing forward and that both legs are not internally or externally rotated
  • slowly lower body until you feel a stretch
